Summer of 1990

Okay so here it goes. How I landed a job on a cruise ship.

Not sure what happened here. 

 

This is how it all went down. I was nearing the end of my Sophomore year of college in 1990 and my boss informed me that I needed to get out of town, do something, see the world. It just so happened that my cousin was in Oklahoma visiting from California and he just happened to mention that one of his co-pilots daughter had gone to Hawaii to work on a cruise ship....what......say no more....sign me up.....I'm outta here. With a tad more determination the next thing I knew I was on an American Airlines flight headed to Honolulu. Goodbye, Oklahoma. My journal dates, May 30, 1990.

 First things first. Where would I stay. I had already devised a plan that I would stay at the YWCA in Honolulu. As I am writing this I'm wondering to myself, how did I get there. My journal keeps referring to buses and how I had come to despise bus rides. Well I certainly do not remember what happened when I arrived but I do remember calling my mom and dad, crying. I was homesick. I thought to myself, what in the world had I done. I was strong and held it together and made my way to the YWCA.  I would soon find out that there's a lot of odd people in this world. The stay didn't last and before long, after a move to a cheap hotel on Waikiki Beach, a lot of sightseeing and eating all the pineapple I could possibly get my hands on I found myself at the American-Hawaii headquarters talking my way through an interview. Boom, I was hired. After a physical and drug test I was soon sitting in the Union Hall waiting for my name to be called. I didn't know what was about to happen but soon I was about to become an United States Merchant Marine, sailing the high seas of the Pacific Ocean.

That's me doing a life boat drill. I was in charge that seems a little strange to me now.

 It was a little windy don't laugh at the hair.

I still can't believe my mom let me do this.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my friends out there at the beginning of this holiday season. I just penned a little note on my facebook page that goes something like this......it's a little bible verse from 1st Corinthians.......

2012 Honey Harvest

While sitting on our duff's and watching the latest episode of Duck Dynasty this past week we suddenly realized that we had a beehive to tend too as well. I hope you enjoy the few pix I have posted about our weekend project. You'll find this honey in the Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey bar soap.

 So much to do so little time in the life of mine.

 

Our boys layed the news on us this weekend that they have decided they BOTH want to show pigs this Spring......we do not know anything, I mean NOTHING about pigs......stay tuned.....

I guess we won't say "no" to this project either.

Arkansas Apple Festival

Hoffman Essentials is happy to announce that we will be attending and maintaining a booth this weekend at the Lincoln, Arkansas Arkansas Apple Festival! This festival is home to the annual Apple Throwing Contest and a ton of fun arts and crafts dealing with apples in some way or another. In addition to the latter activites, there is also a Kid's World for those young at heart and those young all over! The Apple Festival is a great way to grow closer to your family and to grow closer to those things you love. (Mainly apples!)

We can't wait to see you in Lincoln this weekend!

Where does our goats milk come from

The dream of a million girls,,,Um goats,
Who are more than pretty,
can come true in Atlantic City, um I mean Oklahoma. 
 For she may turn out to be, 
The Queen of femininity.

Miss Orbit is a 4 year old doe born and raised in Wagoner, Oklahoma. She spends her days grazing and running along side her mama, Starlight and sister, Milkyway. She would like to thank Shane Greer and his son, Jacob for always believing in her and making sure her udders are clean and milked twice daily.  Miss Orbit would like to see world peace for all goats and does not think euthanasia should be legalized.

Happy Labor Day!

These are the little things that make me happy.  I am trying really, really hard not to "GOOGLE it" as I prefer to remain in the dark. I kind of like it that way.
